YUGIOH:MOST EDUCATIONAL KIDS SHOW DISGUISED AS A CARD GAME
The first seasons of this show (the ones starring Yugi Motto and friends at least) had so many historic/religious refferences. Even the card games told a loose story in every set that was released, Legend of the Blue Eyes, Metal Raiders, Magician Force, etc.
MONSTER REBORN, MILENNIUM KEY - ANKH, THE KEY OF LIFE
Remember your favorite, now banned card that used to bring your monsters back to life? Yup. That was actually based on the ancient hieroglyph for the “key of life” or “key of the Nile” makes sense right? What doesn’t make sense is why Wizards of the Coast felt it necessary to change the artwork for the english release.
MAN WITH WDJAT - WEDJAT, EYE OF HORUS
This all seeing eye is a symbol of protection. The Wedjat, which is supposed to be the eye of Horus, god of the skies, was a symbol used to represent royal power from the deities, which is why almost every millenium item has a variation of the eye emblazened on it.
WINGED DRAGON OF RA - RA, SUN GOD
Ra was the god of the sun according to Egyptian mythology. He is considered to be the first being, and creator of the other figure worshipped in ancient egyptian mythos. All living creatures were said to be created by Ra. He did so by calling forth their secret names. This is why Ra was the most sought after and dangerous of all the god cards.
There are so many examples of egyptian history and even christrianity and many other refferences in the shadow realm of Yugioh. Feel free to submit any of them that I missed or didn’t mention.
